When it is your happy special day and whether you are celebrating a birthday or special anniversary if you would like a mention on Nomanda’s blog just send us the details. We promise you a very special mention on this blog on your special day!

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

There’s always someone who will apparently do whatever it takes to get their name in the record books. Not everyone is blessed with great physical attributes, incredible stamina or nimble agility so they have to think of something different to do. I guess this is where Thom Syles comes in because on this day in 1983 he earned his very small place in history by sucking a “Life Saver” for over 7 hours! The actual credit is that he “kept a Life Saver intact for over 7 hours”. The only thing Nomanda could keep intact in his mouth for over 7 hours would be his teeth so I have to take my hat off to good old Thom! As the saying goes “Nothing succeeds like a toothless budgerigar!” For those readers who don’t know what a “Life Saver” is it’s something like a polo mint!

The “Living Seas” opened up at Epcot on this day in 1986. Apparently you can watch all the big fish swimming around while you eat your lunch and whilst on the other side of the tank they are lining you up for theirs!

If you are going to get deep down and intimate with someone, especially if it’s not your spouse, then Nomanda’s advice is not to take photos to record the occasion! If you feel as though you have to take photos then my next piece of advice is to not leave them lying around so the cleaning lady can find them! That’s what happened to Sarah Ferguson on this day in 1992. You have been warned!

Whilst Queen Elizabeth II was falling off her horse and breaking her wrist on this day in 1994 an adventurous Dutch motorist in the Hague was breaking the Dutch blood alcohol driving limit. The previous record set by one of his countrymen was 47% alcohol in his blood but our hero blew that away staggering in with a massive 51%! That’s more booze in your system than blood! Nomanda does not approve of people drinking and driving, but come on, we’ve all done it sometime, but I have to say that I’m impressed that this guy could even find his car, get in and start it with all that amount of booze in his system! I bet he woke up with a stinking hangover, a massive fine and probably a ban for life!

One of France’s finest, the playwright, actor and master of comedy Moliere (1622 – 1673) is our first birthday celebrity today. A great writer’s legacy is the lines that stand the test of time and here are a few of Nomanda’s chosen quotes from the great man.

The trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.
Things only have the value that we give them
It is a fine seasoning for joy to think of those we love.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right.
I assure you that a learned fool is more foolish than an ignorant fool
I always write a good first line, but I have trouble in writing the others.

I think that last one is particularly applicable to Nomanda!

I hope that Martha Davis (1951) guests all turn up to her bash today otherwise those that do will be subjected to “Only the Lonely”!

Melvyn Gale (1952) could lighten the mood a bit especially if he brings all his mates along from the ELO!

And finally Iris DeMent will be happy wherever her party is held as long as it is in “Our Town”!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
