When it is your happy special day and whether you are celebrating a birthday or special anniversary, if you would like a mention on Nomanda’s blog just send us the details. We promise you a very special mention on this blog on your special day!

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

It was on this day in 1547 that Ivan IV “the Terrible” was crowned Tsar of Russia. Current sources think that his reputation may have come about as a result of a bit of mistranslation and a better title would be “the awesome” which I’m sure you agree sounds a lot more friendly! He was only 16 years old at the time of his coronation and had been waiting in the wings following his father’s death. His father died when the young lad was just 3 years old. Ivan IV was not the best loved person and was responsible for many deaths including his own son’s. Ivan apparently died whilst playing chess. It wasn’t the rigours of the chess game that saw him off as much as the amount of mercury in his body discovered upon a later exhumation!

This day in history had been an interesting one for the Beatles over the years starting with the opening of the Cavern Club in 1957. A few years later on this day in 1980 Paul McCartney was jailed for 10 days in Tokyo for the possession of marijuana, and not learning form his previous misdemeanour Paul and Linda McCartney were arrested in Barbados on this day in 1984 for the possession of cannabis! “Where have all the Flowers gone and when will they ever learn?

I know it’s the Pantomime season and on this day in 1963 President Khrushchev claimed to have a 100 megaton nuclear bomb. “Oh no you haven’t!” replies JFK? “Oh yes I have!” replies Mr K!

Faring slightly better than their brand number the Searchers “Love Potion #9” went to the #3 spot on this day in 1965!

The Scotsman who became known as the “Bard of the Yukon”, Robert William Service (1874 – 1958) is our first birthday celebrity today. If you haven’ heard of him or read any of his stuff start with “The Cremation of Sam McGee”, it’s very funny!

Just to show that Nomanda isn’t sexist our next birthday guest is David Chokachi (1968) renowned for his character “Cody Madison” on “Joey’s” favourite series “Baywatch”!

Although she’s had a bit of bad press in her time, our final birthday celebrity, Kate Moss (1974) has appeared on over 300 fashion magazine covers and earns around $9 million a year. That’s just about enough to earn her a place in Nomanda’s hall of fame!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
