Flower of the Month: Carnation

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!

I suspect that most of Nomanda’s faithful readers will have been up partying most of last night and that very few of them will be in a fit state to do anything today before sometime around noon. Not that I think there will be too many hangovers around because they will have all taken their “precautionary” pain killers before they went to bed. If they were in a sufficiently fit state to remember!

One of life’s little wonders is that no matter how dreadful you feel when you get up the day after the night before the body’s recovery system kicks in around noon and you are charged with renewed vigour to carry on partying! Amazing, really!

Of course the New Year brings with it all those good intentions and resolutions and the whole atmosphere is electrically charged with positive thoughts and enthusiasm! Frankly Nomanda has given up on New Year resolutions having disappointed myself so much in the past. I’m just a spineless good for nothing that apart from sticking to your daily blog couldn’t be trusted to commit to anything! Not true I hear you cry and your support is greatly appreciated!

Sadly the New Year can also be a time when advantages are taken of the poor consumer such as the regular hike of commuting fares. The administrators of the New York transit system are not blameless in this regard having hiked the fare up from 75c to $1.15 on this day in the period from 1984 to 1989. That’s over a 50% increase in just 5 years. It’s daylight robbery!

Another great opportunity to rip the public off is when there is a change in currency or a switch to decimalisation. This happened in the UK when it went decimal, and today in 2002 all the shopkeepers of Europe seized the changeover to the Euro to improve their margins. Of course good old “Grande Britannia” decided that this European Euro nonsense wasn’t for them and stuck to their old fashioned pounds. I bet they didn’t think that in just 7 years time the Euro would be worth more than the pound!

What have you got to say about that, Gordon?

Inspiring birthday celebrities are hard to find today so if today is your special day and you are an inspiring and talented person please write to Nomanda and I promise I’ll give you a mention next year!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
