Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!
For those lucky ones who are still enjoying their last few days of holidays Nomanda wishes you well and reminds you that today is probably your last day of the hols, so enjoy it while you can! For the rest of us it’s back to work as normal and Christmas seems ages ago as we tread the grindstone once more!
There are some things on life that are just not worth doing as demonstrated by the commencement of the mapping of Mars that started on this day in 1972. Mariner 9 was up their circling the planet and started the process. What on earth for?! Here we are over 30 years later and nobody has yet visited the planet and I can’t find any references to it on my “Tomtom”! What a total and complete waste of time!
Widely regarded as one of the best leg spinners in the history of cricket, Shane Warne made his test debut on this day in 1992 playing against India. In a test career spanning 15 years he was to taunt opposition batsmen mercilessly. His test career statistics are 40,704 balls bowled taking 708 wickets at an average of 25.41. Have a look at this clip of some of his best balls bowled.
Our first celebrity guest is the country singer Roger Miller (1936 – 1992) who will always be the “King of the Road” for Nomanda!
The fast running, hard hitting archaeological professor Tia Carrere (1966) is our next birthday celebrity. Her character “Sydney Fox” gets herself into some awful scrapes in the search for old bits of stuff but she always comes out on top smiling and shining and ready for the next adventure! Where does she get her energy from?
Our final birthday celebrity is the fashion model Christy Turlington (1969). I’m sure that Calvin Klein will get an invite to her birthday bash because he’s eternally grateful for what she’s done for him!

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!
For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!
And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!
If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.
