Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

Just as yesterday when life can be so unfair sometimes, there are also times when you just know you shouldn’t have got out of bed that morning. Nomanda’s brother had one of those experiences yesterday! He was coming over to visit to spend a few days together and to celebrate the New Year. I don’t want to get too deep down and personal about my brother’s ailments, suffice it to say that he suffers from piles (I can’t spell haemorrhoids!) He got up bright and early to catch the plane to get to us and obviously had other things on his mind when he put his haemorrhoid ointment onto his toothbrush! He soon noticed his mistake but of course by this time it was all too late and he had what can only be described as a nasty taste in his mouth! Having applied the correct pastes to the right places he packed and went out to start the car. It didn’t!

By this time his “plenty of time” plans were beginning to slip away and he called for a taxi to get him to the airport. £50 lighter he tried to book himself on the plane only to find that the automatic booking system didn’t accept him. Now he’s queued up and parted with another £40 to get his bags with all the Christmas presents on the plane and arrives at the departure lounge with a good 10 minutes to spare before take-off!

Happily things looked up from this point and he arrived safely complete with lovely presents and we’re all having a great time together except for the fact that one of our dogs keeps sniffing his bum and can’t understand why it smells like mint!

Gilbert and Sullivan
’s “Pirates of Penzance” premiered on this day in 1879 and this song from the opera is dedicated to my brother!

In a premonition of things to come the Beatles’ song “Hello Goodbye” went to the #1 spot and stayed there for a further 3 weeks. Sadly the group would split up in a couple of years and the world would never be the same again.

Our first birthday celebrity today is Bo Diddley (1928 – 2008) the guy who was greatly influential in the transition from Blues music to Rock and Roll. Have a listen to him performing the song “Bo Diddley”!

Paul Stookey (1937), the Paul from the group Peter, Paul and Mary may be puffing the magic dragon at his birthday bash today!

Our final birthday greetings go to the world’s #1 golfer Tiger Woods (1975). I had no idea he was that old!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
