Happy Special 29th July Day!

Flower of the Month

Larkspur

Gemstone of the Month: Ruby

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

Dib dib dib, neckerchiefs and woggles are all part of a Boy Scout’s armoury, so stand up and salute Sir Robert Baden-Powell who founded the English Boy Scout Movement on this day in 1907. His motivations, which were to improve the fitness of young men and to encourage them to do good deeds to others, are laudable. Sadly I am sure he will be turning in his grave if he can see the sort of yobs, hooligans and knife carriers that populate the streets of Britain today. The age of innocence is long gone!

Desperate to be the first Dutchman to fly over Holland J W E L Hilders jumped on a plane on this day in 1910 and did just that! He was a very inexperienced pilot and I’m told could only fly in straight lines as he hadn’t yet mastered the art of turning! It all turned out OK in the end and he got his name into the record books!

Despite his singing success the ‘60’s were to be accident prone for one of the times best loved performers. Bob Dylan was injured in a car accident on this day in 1961 and in a motor bike accident on this day in 1966. Maybe the answer is not to go out on 29th July! Play us a song and stay indoors today, Bob!

Proving to her loyal subjects that she was “with it” Queen Elizabeth II attended the UK premier of the Beatles' film “Help” on this day in 1965. I’m sure she had a great time!

First up for a birthday mention today is the “Mad MonkRasputin (1871 – 1916) who was born on this day. Was he mad, was he a psychic, was he a faith healer? Whatever he was he came to a sticky end. Nevertheless he has been immortalised by Boney M so let’s hear it from them!

Sharing her birthday on this day in Patti Scialfa (1956) aka Mrs Bruce Springsteen. Let’s see if we can persuade them to give us a birthday song!

The prolific athlete Sally Gunnell (1966) will be hurdling her way over the tables to her birthday cake today! According to my reckoning she won a total of 13 gold medals during the ‘90’s and none so precious as the gold she picked up at the 1992 Olympics at Barcelona. Well done, Sally

Our final birthday wishes go to the actor Wil Wheaton (1972) who is best known for his character “Wesley” in Star Trek – The Next Generation. “Wesley” is a bit of a know all but we love him really!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
