If you are enjoying Nomanda’s blog please pass it on to your friends. And if you would like to make a comment or get your own special mention on your own special day just send us the details through the comments section and we’ll make sure we don’t forget you!

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

It was on this day in 1969 that the first test flight of the Boeing 747 took place. The plane would go on to be used commercially in 1970 and it held the record for the plane able to take the highest number of passengers for 37 years. At the time of its development Boeing only expected that the plane would have a production life of 400 units. As of October last year 1,409 planes had been produced and the next version of the plane, the 747 – 8, is scheduled to go into service in 2010! Nice work if you can get it!

The group, Fleetwood Mac, will remember this day in 1977 when they released their 13th album called “Rumours”. It would go on to become the best selling album of 1977 with over 8 million sales, and staying at the album #1 spot for 31 weeks. This track is one of Nomanda’s favourites from the album.

On this same day in 1985 that the Coca Cola Company choose to introduce “Cherry Coke” to the unsuspecting public, Mickey Mouse was being welcomed to China! I like Mickey Mouse and am not too keen on “Cherry Coke”. I reckon the Chinese got the best part of the deal that day!

I think we are really lucky when some of the great sportsmen and women hang up their boots and continue their careers commentating for us on TV. There are many who have followed this path and one who would go on to be a sports commentator for the BBC, Linford Christie, on this day in 1995 was sprinting his way into the record books. He managed to run the world indoor 200 metre record at 20.25 seconds and not content with that he managed to pick up the European 60 metre record at 6.47 seconds on the same day!

Our first birthday celebrity to day is the “bad guyLee Marvin (1924 – 1987). He was a great actor as a baddie, but his fans will never forget his “Wandering Star” from the film “Paint Your Wagon”. I just love his gravely voice! Brilliant!

Our last birthday boy, Bobby Rogers (1940) believes in miracles and has “Really Got a Hold on Me”!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
