When it is your happy special day and whether you are celebrating a birthday or special anniversary, if you would like a mention on Nomanda’s blog just send us the details. We promise you a very special mention on this blog on your special day!

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

Today is a big day for all Chinese and Australians.

Apparently the run up to the Chinese New Year is marked by cleaning up the house so that everything is spotless for the celebrations. Now there’s an idea that Nomanda likes because we clean up every day and every week and our house is always spotless! Maybe those Chinese guys know a thing or two about housework that has escaped Nomanda! Anyway, today marks the start of the Chinese New Year and billions of them will be celebrating in style! The festival begins on the first day of the first lunar month in the Chinese Year and they carry on partying right up to the 15th day of the lunar month! They certainly know how to party those guys! If you see any of your neighbours painting their house red, hanging out lanterns, setting off fireworks and generally making a nuisance of themselves then Nomanda’s money is on the fact that you’ve got Chinese neighbours!

There are not quite as many Australians to celebrate their special “Australia Day” but if I know them well enough they’ll be wiping down the Barbie, throwing a few shrimps on the job and washing the whole lot down with can or two of Australia’s finest! A very special greeting to our Aussie friends !!

One thing’s for certain there won’t be either any Chinese or Australians in need of Elvis’ song “Are You Lonesome Tonight” that went to the #1 spot on this day in 1961.

The prominent English professional golfer of the ‘30’s and ‘40’s Henry Cotton (1907 – 1987) is our first birthday celebrity today. Apart from winning the Open three times he obviously had a thing about playing in Belgium as he won the Belgium Open on several occasions too! He loved the life style and fame that came with his success and enjoyed life to the full. Quite right, too!

Our next birthday celebrity is the Hollywood legend Paul Newman (1925 – 2008). He was a great actor and one of Nomanda’s favourites is this clip from “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”!

Our final birthday greetings go to Andrew Ridgeley (1963) who may need a wake up call to make sure he turns up on time for his birthday bash today!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
