7 December - Historical Events and Special Celebrations

Gemstone of the Month

Turquoise

Flower of the Month: Paper White

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

Normally Nomanda finds interesting facts that have occurred on this day in history and picks out a few celebrities who have their birthdays on this day. However today I’m going to stray from the usual content and share with you an incident that happened to Nomanda yesterday. It’s called:

The day the dog farted!

To set the scene let me tell you that Nomanda is an animal lover and likes dogs in particular. We already have a cat and dog and recently we adopted another dog from the local dog refuge centre. He’s a lovely beagle/spaniel cross and is absolutely adorable. He is around 6 years old and the poor fellow had spent his last 3 years in a small box at the centre. Before we picked him up we were told that he didn’t travel well in cars and despite Nomanda’s best efforts of driving very slowly and gently he didn’t disappoint us and threw up all over my wife on the way home!

Once we got him home he settled in quite well and is a very happy and lovable dog. He’s had a few hiccups on the house training front except that he’s been hiccupping from the other end!

To try and minimise the number of “accidents” we have been walking him several times each day and by and large that exercise has worked. Sadly the day after we’d put all the carpets back down he had another “accident” during the night. Determined that we should avoid any more mishaps we’ve been keeping an even more alert eye on his behaviour inside the house. And so it was that yesterday, after he’d already been out for a couple of walks and done his business on the second excursion that whilst sitting in the lounge my wife said to me:
The dog’s just farted!

Nomanda is a great believer in the phrase that there’s no smoke without fire and so we decided that we’d better take him out for another walk. The weather was dreadful with strong winds and driving rain. We decided that we’d take him out and as soon as he’d performed we’d head straight back home out of the storm! Suitably dressed for the appalling weather, coats, hats, gloves and scarves, off we set.

Fortunately we live out in the country and so we can walk the dogs around the surrounding fields and have a couple of different routes we take depending on the length of the walk. We set off on the short one anxious to get back home as soon as possible. It’s pissing down and the dog is having a wonderful time sniff sniffing his way through the drenched countryside! He doesn’t look in the slightest as though he’s going to perform!

Having reached the end of the short walk at the point where we would normally turn back and head for home, we are both drenched through to the skin and the dogs are loving it! We decide to go the extra mile and continue on the longer route.

At this point I should tell you that with our interest and love of dogs we are both avid followers of Cesar Millan, the “Dog Whisperer”. As we bent down and struck out further into the storm I asked my wife if she realised what was happening.

“You know what we’re doing, don’t you I asked?”

“What’s that?”

“We’re teaching the dog that every time he farts he gets rewarded with an extra long walk!”

“Don’t be silly.” was the reply, as she wiped the rain from her face.

We walked on, and on, and on, and still no joy!

By this time we were so wet we were past caring and after a couple of hours headed back home.

We have never been so wet in our lives! We were both wearing three layers of clothing plus the coats, hats etc and everything was soaked through, and still no result!

It took us ages to get out of the wet stuff, dried down and into some clean dry clothing, and that’s not counting the time we spent drying down the two dogs!

We made a cup of tea, sat down in front of a blazing fire, and tried to get ourselves warmed up. The storm was still raging outside and we hadn’t been settled down for more than a couple of minutes when my wife said,

“You won’t believe this!”

“What’s that?”

“He’s just farted again!”

Cesar I have to tell you that at that point my “calm assertive state” went ballistic as I set off to take the little chap out again.

This time I took an umbrella with me and gave a very passable performance of Mary Poppins for the benefit of our neighbours! No poos, no nothing, just a very happy dog out for another adventure with his Dad!

And so the day, the evening, and the night passed without so much as an excuse me!

As we rolled up the carpets once again ready for the inevitable during the night I took a roll of toilet paper from the loo and put it in the place where he normally “does it”.

“What’s that for? My wife asked.

“So he can wipe his arse when he’s finished!” I replied.

Nevertheless I am delighted to report that all was clean when we got up this morning although after his first two walks already, we’re still awaiting a result!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
