Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

All little girls love dolls. Mostly they are bought for them by their parents and relatives and the happy little girls play with them all day long. Well the cartoonist John Gruelle (1880 – 1938) went one better for his little girl on this day in 1915 when he created the doll character for her called “Raggedy Ann” and patented her. She has a mop of bright red hair, a heart of candy and is visited by fairies who give her presents. She got a bit lonely on her own so good old Daddy brought out “Raggedy Andy” to keep her company in 1920. “Raggedy Ann’s” adventures and stories are still popular today.

The likeable “Flying ScotJackie Stewart celebrated winning the Formula 1 Champion on this day in 1973. During his career he was active in promoting better driving conditions for drivers and responsible for improving safety precautions at races following his own personal experience after an accident at a race at Spa in Belgium. He now has a very successful career as a racing commentator.

Improving the www experience for the world “Google Inc” was founded on this day in 1998. Where would we all be without it?

The “Virgin QueenElizabeth I (1533 – 1603) was born on this day. She was the last of the Tudor dynasty and ruled the country through good counsel surrounding herself with many trusted advisors. She supported the Protestant Church and allowed the Catholic Church to prosper believing that one’s faith was a personal thing was not an issue the state should interfere with. She also established England as a formidable nation in Europe and the “Elizabethan Era” was to provide history with such great people as Shakespeare, Marlowe, Drake and Raleigh to name but a few.

Only a few qualify to have an account at Coutts Bank that was founded by Thomas Coutts (1735 – 1822) who was born on this day. If you are one of the fortunate few to be a customer of Coutts then Nomanda takes his hat off to you! One of my friends who organised an annual golf weekend was so impressed to receive a Coutts cheque for £25.00 from one of the players that instead of banking it, he framed it!

Buddy Holly (1936 – 1959) was born on this day. Despite his short life he has been described as one of the most influential creative forces in early rock and roll. Everyone knows his famous “Peggy Sue” but that won’t stop Nomanda playing it one more time!

Another voice known to most of the world is that of “Marge Simpson” so let’s wish Julie Kavner (1951), the lady behind the voice, our best birthday wishes today!

The lady who appeared alongside Sylvester Stallone in the “Last Action Hero”, Angie Everheart (1969) will be knocking back a few glasses of bubbly at her birthday bash today!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
