6 September - Historical Events and Special Celebrations

Flower of the Month

Aster

Gemstone of the Month: Sapphire

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

Nomanda’s brother is setting off on a sailing trip today and intends to sail up the east coast of the UK, west along the Caledonian Canal, around the Scottish islands, back through the Canal again, and then head south for home. If he sees the first US lighthouse on Little Brewster Island just out side Boston built on this day in 1716, he’s gone and gotten himself well and truly lost! We wish him, his crew and all their guests a great time on the voyage.

In a taste of things to come W G Grace scored 152 runs against Australia at his debut Test Match at the Oval ground on this day in 1880. He would not have been impressed with Peter the Great’s beard tax! See yesterday’s blog.

A few years later on this day in 1886 Queen Victoria established the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) which is normally awarded to senior officers who had distinguished themselves in battle. Nomanda’s father told him that DSO stood for “Dickey Shot Off!” Naughty man!

Making sure he wasn’t going to miss the highly profitable Christmas record market Elvis Presley recorded “White Christmas”, “Silent Night” and “Here Comes Santa Claus” on this day in 1957. It’s all so mercenary, isn’t it?

In a serious case of the French equivalent of “whoops” a French police computer sent out 41,000 letters to Parisians on this day in 1989 accusing them of a number of crimes including murder, prostitution and extortion. Don’t worry if you’ve booked your next holiday to Paris as the city is not as dangerous as the police letters imply. The letters should have been sent out for parking offences! However, you may want to be careful where you park your car next time you visit the city!

Finally” Cece Peniston (1969) gets to celebrate her birthday today. After all she’s been waiting all year!

Another couple of ladies share their birthday with Cece; Kathy Wolfgramm (1971) of the Jets, and the foxy lady Foxy Brown (1979. Let’s hear from one of them!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
