Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!
Just over 100 years ago today (1906) the “Census of the British Empire” showed that England ruled 20% of the world. Now look at it! By my reckoning it doesn’t even “rule” 100% of Great Britain now! Shows that it doesn’t pay to be complacent!
Later on, in 1944, on this day the original “Great Escape” occurred when 76 allied officers went AWOL from Stalag Luft 3. The escape was immortalised in film by the sadly no longer with us, Steve McQueen. Strangely enough it’s Steve’s birthday today as well (1930).
In service mode the “King” joined the American Army today in 1958 and for those who are interested his service number was ((55310761). Let’s hear one of his best!
It was also on this day in 1976 that the Argentinean military decided that they’d had enough of Isabel Peron and deposed her. So, no use crying over that one then!
One mother’s eyes were watering today in 1874 when Erik Weisz’s mother gave birth to her son who became known to the world as Harry Houdini. Another Great Escaper!
Our next birthday wishes today go to Alan Sugar (1947), manufacturer of Amstrad computers and the terror of would be apprentices!
Our final birthday greetings go to the lovely actress Kelly LeBrock who looks great in red and gets up to all sorts of stuff in the lab where she does some “Weird Science”!

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!
For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!
And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!
If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.
