Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!
It seems to be a day for food and beverages as they say in the not quite top restaurants! Much to the chagrin of the local Alaskan population it was on this day in 1922 that “Eskimo Pie” was patented by Christian K Nelson of Iowa. Happily it is not what you think and the recipe does not start with the words, “Take one Eskimo”! I bet it’s blubberly!
One of Nomanda’s friends’s who has what one could euphemistically call a penchant for beer will join me today in celebrating the first canned beer to hit the supermarket shelves on this day in 1935. It was marketed under the name of “Krueger Cream Ale” by the unsurprisingly named Krueger Brewing Company! Nomanda’s friend is a self confessed Heineken man but is also a pragmatist and would drink anything!
Bernard Mathews (1930) is our first birthday celebrity today. He is the man who brought turkeys out of their traditional Christmas appearance and onto our tables whenever we feel like a bit of a gobble.
The singer with a voice like a rusty nail, Neil Diamond (1941) is our next birthday guest. He is one of the all time greats and this is one of Nomanda’s favourites!

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!
For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!
And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!
