Gemstone of the Month

Flower of the Month: Paper White

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

If a bit of physical exercise is your way of keeping warm during the winter months then you could do a lot worse than the boxing match between Jake Kilrain and Jem Smith that took place on this day in 1887. It was in the days of bare knuckle fights with unlimited rounds. These two slogged it out for an amazing 106 rounds and in the end the referee called it a draw! If Jake and Jem had enough energy left I’m sure they would have landed a punch or two on the ref! Nomanda takes a much more passive approach to keeping warm which is to light the fire and hug it!

In an another amazing feat of fancy foot work and endurance Mrs Theres Vaughn confessed at court to being married 62 times on this day in 1922. The young Theres was just 24 years old at the time and Nomanda finds this one difficult to believe! Just do the maths. Let’s say she started her wedding spree at the tender age of 16, that means that she would have had to get married and divorced an average of 8 times every year! Maybe it all went on in Las Vegas. She obviously enjoyed the status but just couldn’t make up her mind who she wanted to be married to!

Frank Sinatra
had his first recording session with Reprise Records on this day in 1960 and he started with an oldie but goodie, “Ring–A–Ding Ding”.

Now I know that great plans can take some time to come to fruition but I’m disappointed with NASA who announced on this day in 1988 that they planned to colonise the moon and to send manned missions to Mars. As far as I know the moon is still uninhabited except for the old man! Frankly I don’t think the idea to colonise the moon is such a great one anyway. I’ve seen some artists’ impressions of what it could be like and it’s not that impressive with people walking around in space suits and so on. Apparently power sources are proving to be a bit tricky, but the food supply isn’t a problem as long as you like cheese!

The Vampire Slayer Kristy Swanson (1969) is our first birthday celebrity today. No doubt she’ll be buffing up the glasses and will have a great birthday bash!

Anyone who is born with the birth name Jon Owens (1970) and changes it to “Casual” has to be a cool dude! Rapping isn’t necessarily Nomanda’s thing but here he is apologising in “I Didn’t Mean To”.

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
