Gemstone of the Month

Flower of the Month: Paper White

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

As the festive season approaches the current rash of pop singers are queuing up releasing their so called Christmas records to earn themselves a few extra bob to lubricate their holidays! Not much has changed as the Beatles released their “Christmas Time is Here Again” on this day in 1967. I’m sure all the extra bucks they earn go to good causes!

A few years later, no doubt in the spirit of the festive season, on this day in 1973 the US Psychiatrist announced to the world that homosexuals were not mentally ill. They may not be ill, but Nomanda thinks they are sick!

If macho male is more your thing then you will join with Nomanda in celebrating the opening of the scary ride “Pirates of the Caribbean” on this day in 1973 at Disneyland’s Magic Kingdom. It’s all quite frightening with all those guns and cannons going off and the pirates doing all their drunken singing and stuff! Yo! Ho!

This day seems to have been a popular day for celebrity and super model marriages as it was on this day in 1985 that Rocky Rambo Sylvester Stallone married the super model Brigitte Nielsen. A few years later in 1990 rocker Rod Stewart chose this day to marry his super model Rachael Hunter. Sadly neither marriage was to last ……. super sad really!

When John Bruton became Ireland’s premier on this day in 1994 did anyone think that the first anniversary of his appointment would be celebrated by the re-appearance of the magazine “Playboy”, following a 36 year ban, on the shelves of the local newspaper shops I’m sure it’s just a co-incidence!

Our first birthday celebrity today is the Frenchman Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel (1832 - 1923) known all over the world for the tower he designed and built for the “Exhibition Universelle” held in Paris in 1889. Having attracted 2 million visitors in its first year the plans to tear down the Eiffel Tower after the exhibition were scrapped! He was a prolific bridge builder and in fact had a hand in the structural engineering of the Statue of Liberty sent to the USA as a gift from the French people.

I guess that Dave Clark (1942) will be feeling pretty chipper at his birthday bash today. In fact I think he’ll be feeling “Glad All Over”!

Supergirl Helen Slater (1963) may entertain her birthday guests with a fly by at her bash today!

Our final birthday wishes go to the actor Garrett Wang, better known to his Star Trek fans as ensign “Harry Kim”.

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
