2 November - Historical Events and Special Celebrations

Flower of the Month

Chrysanthemum

Gemstone of the Month: Topaz

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

Peter Shaffer’s famous musical “Amadeus” premiered in London on this day in 1979. It must have been a daunting task for one musician to tell the life story of another famous classical musician in a musical. Well Shaffer did an excellent job of it and here is one of Nomanda’s favourite clips from the show.

Siblings don’t always get on well together and the “Jackson” family are no different to the rest of us in that respect at least! It was on this day in 1991 that Michael’s big brother, Jermaine, released his “Word to the Badd” which wasn’t very brotherly now, was it?

It was on this day in 2004 that one of Nomanda’s most unfavourite people, George W Bush was elected President of the US for a second term. He won a convincing 51% of the popular vote which only goes to show that he wasn’t that popular. Not the most intelligent or impressive man on the planet to have such responsibility, see this. He will soon be replaced by either Obama or McCain each of whom are equally unimpressive! If we get the politicians we deserve then we have serious deficits in our intellectual accounts!

Our first birthday celebrity today is the wife of Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette (1755 – 1793) who’s personal excesses and her famous “Let them eat cake” comment led to her untimely death at the hand of Madame Guillotine.

Our next birthday girl is Stephanie Powers (1942) who always seemed an all round good egg to her TV partner Mr Hart and despite her heroic antics, there was always a hot meal on the table when hubbie got home!

Our next birthday tribute goes to the author and sex therapist Shere Hite (1942). She left out her first name initial from her well read treatise entitled the “Hite Report”. I wonder why!

Our final birthday wishes go to the English soul singer Maxine Nightingale (1952) who would like us to all “Get Back to Where We Started From”. Not a bad sentiment!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
