Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!
I’m sure they all thought it was a good idea at the time on this day in 1893 when the enterprising team at New York World came up with the idea of putting a colour supplement in their newspaper. However it’s all got out of hand and I would challenge anyone these days to buy a newspaper that isn’t stuffed full of all sorts of other nonsense that will be thrown away and never read! Nomanda hates it!
It was on this day in 1906 that London was selected to host the 1908 Olympic Games. Times change as the world turns. They had less than two years to get ready for the great event and I wouldn’t mind betting that it was just as good as the modern day efforts that take ages to put together and cost the host nation millions!
Some bright flake at Kellogg’s invented “Pop Tarts” on this day in 1965 and the company currently sells 2 billion of the crumby things each year. I hope the guy who created them got a decent bonus for his idea, or even better a commission on every one sold!
The American fashion designer and stick your name on as many other products as you can man, Calvin Klein (1942) will be wriggling into a pair of his own jeans in preparation for his birthday bash today. Brooke Shields did some nice ads for his jeans as well!
The Gentleman of the snooker halls Dennis Taylor (1949) may be attempting to pot a few blacks at his birthday party!
I wonder if lamb will be on the menu at Jodie Foster’s (1962) dinner party tonight.
Our final birthday wishes go to the McCaughey septuplets (1997). Too numerous to mention each by name but they know who they are and we wish them all a great time!

Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.
For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!
For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!
And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!
If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.
