Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!
Johnny Cash made his first chart appearance with “Cry Cry Cry” on this day in 1955. Thankfully he would go on to do better stuff!
On the same day, but not the same year, that the touch tone telephone was introduced (1963) some idiot was to send out the first interstellar radio message (1974). For those who are interested it was sent out “towards” M 41 which apparently is a cluster of stars around 25,000 light years away! Now that sounds an awful long way away and when I tell you that just one light year is, wait for it, 9,500,000,000,000 kilometres then you can do the maths at how far away M 41 is! I don’t want to go along the route of what the message said! Is there anybody out there and does anyone care! Can you imagine if there was and when the message arrived they were engaged!
Beep beep … Beep, beep (tinny alien voice) “I’m sorry the person you are trying to connect with is engaged, please try later.”
“What’s up?”
” They’re engaged.”
“Oh, sod it; we’ll try again in another 100 years time.”
The funny Welshman Griff Rhys Jones (1953) is our first birthday celebrity today. His TV series “Alias Smith and Jones” with his mate Mel Smith produced some classics. Have a look at this irreverent graveyard sketch!
The Dutch drummer, Gabriel Jongejans (1967) from the group Lois Lane will be bashing her drums at her party bash today! Here’s one of her best ones!

Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.
For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!
For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!
And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!
If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.
