Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!
Now Nomanda has visited Australia a couple of times and knows just what an enormous place it is so I take my hat off today to celebrate the completion of Henry G Perry’s bicycle tour of the country on this day in 1985. He covered 14,021 miles which is about two thirds of the complete Australian coastline. He completed his massive tour in just 157 days which I know is just under 90 miles per day but it is every day and it does get a bit hot out there on occasions! Now I know a couple of keen Aussie cyclists, but I doubt very much whether they’d be up to this. What about it, Michelle and Michael?
The guy who wrote the Ten Commandments, rode a chariot race and beat the very best Rome had to offer and flew like a bat out of hell through space only to land on the “Planet of the Apes”, Charlton Heston (1923 – 2008) is our first birthday celebrity. He was a larger than life actor in films that were literally out of this world!
To put Anneka Rice (1958) alongside Charlton Heston may be a bit complementary to the lovely Anneka, but she does share her birthday with the great man, so why not! She’s a nice lady with an open personality even if she’s just a bit too O Kay Yah!
Another lady who can also go like a bat out of hell, Alicia Silverstone (1976), will be enjoying her birthday party hanging upside down today! Don’t expect sizzling sausages and hamburgers off the BBQ, just enjoy the salads! However if you wait until it gets dark she will show you that she’s not completely “Clueless”!

Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.
For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!
For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!
And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!
If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.
