Flower of the Month

Gemstone of the Month: Opal

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

E M Forster chose this day in 1910 to publish his popular novel “Howards End”. Judging by the number of TV series and films the book has spawned Nomanda thinks it would have been better entitled “Will it Ever End?

The BBC was founded on this day in 1922. Its news service is trusted all over the world and from its humble beginnings it now employs 28,500 people and has an annual budget of £4 billion. What on earth do they all do?

One of the things the BBC used to do was its weekly TV broadcast of “Top of the Pops” which ran from 1964 - 2006. Sadly Tony Sheridan and The Beat Brothers were a bit too early to appear on the show when they recorded their record “Let’s Dance” on this day in 1962.

I don’t know if any of the great songs from Walt Disney’s “Jungle Book” released on this day in 1967 starred on TOTP but if they didn’t they should have as you will agree from this clip!

And if you’re more of a “townie” than a country / jungle person then you will enjoy listening to Simon and Garfunkel’s “My Little Town” sung on this day in 1975.

If you like paintings with boats, city buildings and beautiful skies then join Nomanda in celebrating the birthday of the Italian painter Giovanni Canaletto (1697 – 1768). Mostly known for his paintings of Venice, Nomanda loves his painting of the first “Westminster Bridge”.

One musician asking another famous composer to roll over in his grave seems a bit much but that’s what one of the pioneers of Rock and Roll, Chuck Berry (1926), did when he released his record “Roll over Beethoven”. He’s still rocking so it can’t be all bad!

I wonder if the Czechoslovakian tennis star Martina Navratilova (1956) knows she shares her birthday with a lesser known Japanese tennis star Etsuko Inoue (1964). I bet she doesn’t and I bet she doesn’t care!

The diminutive “Muscles from BrusselsJean-Claude Van Damme (1958) will be flexing and kick boxing at his birthday bash today. Has Rachael from “Friends” still got a crush on him, or was it Monica, or both?

Erin Moran (1960) gets a special birthday wish from Nomanda because she starred on “Happy Days” and after all that’s what Nomanda is all about!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
