2 September - Historical Events and Special Celebrations

Flower of the Month

Aster

Gemstone of the Month: Sapphire

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

Nomanda has had a bit of experience of flying. The airplane sort, not the “Mary Poppins” performance! And in my time I’ve spent hours on planes. Not as long in one stretch as the first non stop flight from Europe to the US that took place on this day in 1930 and took an incredible 37 hours! My congratulations go to the whole crew for keeping it up in the air for so long. It must have been really scary!

Norman Manley must be an impressive golfer. Not only has he made a total of 59 holes in one in his golfing life he actually had 2 consecutive holes in one at the Del Valley Country Club on this day in 1964. And if that wasn’t enough they just happened to be on 2 consecutive par 4’s! Great golf, Norman! I wonder how many holes in one ties he has in his wardrobe!

I don’t know what item of clothing Rod Stewart was referring to when “You Wear it Well” went to the #1 on this day in 1972. Looking at his skinny vest and gold lame trousers he could do with a bit of dress advice himself!

With a voice that has been described as “the sound of summer” the BBC’s cricket commentator, John Arlott was to hang up his commentary boots on this day in 1980. Fittingly it was at the Lords Cricket Ground and the match was between England and Australia.

Our first birthday wishes go to one of the greatest tennis players of all time Jimmy Connors (1952). His record reads 149 titles and 8 Grand Slam victories. He’s a dedicated athlete and also a very funny man!

The Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves (1964) will be celebrating his birthday at “Speed” today!

The formidable heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis (1965) will be knocking a few back at his birthday bash today. His career record reads 44 fights, 41 wins and 32 of those KO’s! With a reach of 84 inches some of his opponents couldn’t get anywhere near him. Watch this!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
