Gemstone of the Month

Sapphire

Flower of the Month: Aster

Nomanda’s Happy Special Day blog is a celebration of events and anniversaries that have touched our lives. If today is your special day join us in looking at a few other events that have occurred on your day. Enjoy!

In an effort to stop the Picts from ruining his day the Roman Emperor Hadrian started building the wall that bears his name on this day in AD 122. The wall marks the northernmost frontier of the Roman Empire and stretches 73.5 miles across England from the east to the west coast. The wall stands 5 to 6 metres high and 3 metres wide and it is obvious that Hadrian did not want the Scots (the descendants of the Picts) messing about with his Empire. The wall is entirely built in England and is about 15 kilometres south of the present England / Scotland border. Needless to say it didn’t stop the Scots from migrating not only south of the border but all over the world!

Renowned all over the world, the Beatles had a double whammy on this day in 1965 when they not only won their first “Grammy” for the best group of 1964 but also released their song “Yesterday”. Should we play this tomorrow?

Following in the Beatles’ footsteps another singer with a world wide reputation, Bruce Springsteen, won his MTV award on this day in 1985. With a voice like a rusty nail he is still going strong after over 40 years in the business and this is one of Nomanda’s favourites.

Showing the world his strength and determination the Briton Paul Lynch did 32,573 push ups in 24 hours on this day in 1987. Sadly as we know all too well there is always someone who will go the extra push up and American Charles Servizio did an amazing 13,428 more completing 46,001 push ups in 1993. And if that is not enough another American, Jeffrey Warrick, is awaiting confirmation of his attempt of 46,300 push ups! There was a time when Nomanda was fairly fit but I doubt I’ve ever done that many push ups in my whole life!

Our birthday celebrities today start with the lovely English actress, Jacqueline Bisset (1944). Although she has appeared in many good films she will probably be best remembered for her wet T-shirt performance in “Deep”!

The American singer, Karen Wyman (1952) will be celebrating her birthday today and I hope she doesn’t get lost on the way to her party on the “Long and Winding Road”!

It’s all birthday girls today and our final birthday wishes go to the American musician Fiona Apple (1977). She is a vegan and a PETA supporter and it would be “Criminal” if we didn’t play this one!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
