Happy Special 25th July Day!

Flower of the Month

Larkspur

Gemstone of the Month: Ruby

It’s always a good story when despite all the odds being stacked against someone they show their mettle and come through just the same. That is the story of the great railway engineer of the early 1800’s George Stephenson. The pumping engine had failed at a colliery where he worked and despite his limited engineering experience George offered to fix it. He did and his repairs were so successful that he was soon promoted to the position of enginewright for the local collieries. He began to learn about steam driven machinery and it was on this day in 1814 that he introduced his first steam engine. This was not the railway engine that was to become the standard for the world but a relatively simple engine designed to pull coal wagons along the Killingworth wagon way. It could pull 30 tons of coal at a speed of around 4 mph. His “proper” railway engine would have to wait a few more years. He was in no hurry!

The Supremes were anxious to tell the world that “You Can’t Hurry Love” on this day in 1966 on the release of their latest song. Maybe you can’t, but you can sing along with it!

I wonder what David Bowie will buy his lovely wife Iman (1956) for her birthday today. Something nice, I’m sure. He may even organise a party for her and ask her for a dance!

Dancing is not one of Matt LeBlanc’s (1967) most renowned talents. If you’ve ever watched either “Joey” or “Chandler” strut their stuff you will know there’s not much to choose between them. They are both nearly as bad as Nomanda on a dance floor! Anyway Matt I hope you have a great birthday bash and don’t forget to invite all your friends around because you’d be no-where without them!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
