Happy Special 23rd July Day!

Flower of the Month

Larkspur

Gemstone of the Month: Ruby

John Boyd Dunlop applied for a patent for his pneumatic tyres on this day in 1888 and he and his company haven’t looked back since. Good call, John!

Another early motoring pioneer, Henry Ford sold his first Model “A” car on this day in 1903 and Nomanda is willing to bet that it not only had a brand new set of gleaming pneumatic tyres fitted, but that also it was black!

It was on this day in 1920 that British East Africa was renamed Kenya and became a British Crown Colony. It is a beautiful country with renowned game parks and still retains a quaint colonial charm. Well worth a visit!

There have been some great song, some good songs and some dreadful songs released over time and it was on this day in 1965 that the Beatles released “Help”, one of the greats! But to rebalance the great from the crap Napoleon XIV released “They’re Coming to Take Me Away, Ha Ha” on this same day a year later! Why did they bother?

Making sure that no-one could take it away President Jimmy Carter designated the “River of No Return Wilderness Area” on this day in 1980. It covers an area of 2.3 million acres and provides a secure habitat for a wide variety of mammals and other wildlife including mountain lions, grey wolves, black bears, lynx, coyote, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, elk, moose mule, deer and red fox. So plenty there to get their teeth stuck into you and vice versa, I suppose!

First up for birthday honours today is the charismatic aptly named lefty, Michael Foot (1913) and still going strong! Throughout his political career he seems to have always backed the wrong horse and kept putting his foot in it! An ardent supporter of Plymouth Argyle Football Club he is registered as one of their players with the shirt number 90 given to him by the club on the occasion of his 90th birthday! Nomanda is sure he is a very good dribbler!

Another oldie but goldie, David Essex (1947) will be having his birthday bash today. He’s done lots of stuff in his long career so let’s have a look at this!

Graham Gooch (1953) is probably the most prolific batsman of all time. His record of a total of 456 runs in a test match, against India in 1990, still stands. Not the most popular captain England has had he managed to upset his share of other team players. Nevertheless a batting giant and we wish him well at his party today!

Our final birthday wishes go to the lovely lady Charisma Carpenter (1970) the actress who plays Cordelia Chase in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel”. Quite scary, really! (Specially selected for our Aussie fans!)

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
