Happy Special 19th July Day!

Flower of the Month

Larkspur

Gemstone of the Month: Ruby

Winning the Tour de France on this day in 1958 was Charly Gaul from Luxembourg. Somehow I can’t see the other French “Charlie” pedalling his way around the Pyrenees on a bicycle. Pity really as it does conjure up an amusing image!

Pedalling her way across the Atlantic on this day in 1984 to become the first female Captain of a 747 to do so was Lynn Rippelmeyer. She started her career with TWA in 1972 as a flight attendant and worked her way to the top. Well done, Lynn!

Fighting his way to the top on this day in 1986 was the great heavy weight boxer Tim Witherspoon who KO’d poor old Frank Bruno in the 11th round to lift the world heavy weight boxing title. Frank picked up around £1 million for coming second and after a bit of creative accounting by his promoter Don King, Tim received just $100,000. It just doesn’t seem fair, really! Nomanda has a friend who at the time Witherspoon was at the height of his career noticed that his and Witherspoon’s physical measurements (reach, neck, chest, fist, thigh etc) were just about the same. There was only one difference in their measurements which was that my mate’s belly was just over twice the size of the champ’s! There but for 24”!

Another fighting stalwart on the cricket field, Ian Botham was to play his last game of first class cricket on this day in 1993. His second career including commentating, quiz shows and promoting healthy diets are all going along nicely!

One of the great tennis players of the ‘70’s Ilie Nastase will be celebrating his birthday today (1946). His career record included two Wimbledon finals and the winner of both the French and US Opens. His long hair and short shorts as well as his sense of humour made him a hit with all fans. A truly entertaining player!

Bernie Leadon of the Eagles will probably be “Taking it Easy” at his birthday bash today (1947).

Another great rocker, Brian May (1947) of the group Queen may be singing “We are the Champions” today. And why not indeed he’s just been awarded a doctorate in astrophysics! Brilliant!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
