Happy Special 11th July Day!

Flower of the Month

Larkspur

Gemstone of the Month: Ruby

Upcoming Special Days

14 July - Emmeline Pankhurst Day

15 July - St. Swithin’s Day

All fans of Charles Dickens will celebrate this day as it was on this day in 1859 that his novel “A Tale of Two Cities” was published. Set in the time of the French Revolution it follows the exploits of Sydney Carton a dissipated English barrister who eventually redeems himself. Whenever I come across this work I am reminded of “Joey” in Friends who wanted to choose the cities to suit his local knowledge when he was up for a part in the play of the same name! Sorry Joey it is Mr Dickens who gets to choose the cities which are London and Paris!

Lots of people put their faith in God but when Congress authorises the US Treasury on this day in 1955 to have all currency say “In God We Trust” it is time to worry about the security of your cash!

Minding their own business and looking for water a few Chinese farmers discovered the “Terracotta Army” on this day in 1975. Dating back to 221BC they are probably one of the most important archaeological finds of modern times. It is estimated that the pits contain 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and a further 150 cavalry horses. The people are all life size and they must be a very impressive sight!

First up for birthday honours today is one of Scotland’s greatest Kings, Robert the Bruce (1274 – 1329). Kept the English out of his country very successfully!

Cutting a dash with his tailor’s scissors rather than his sword our next birthday boy Giorgio Armani was born on this day in 1934. From humble beginnings he now designs for the rich and famous including such snappy dressers as Chelsea Football players. All the Armani family are involved and together they make an absolute fortune! And why not!

Final birthday wishes go to Richie Sambora (1959) the other half of Bon Jovi who together “Give Love a Bad Name”!

Happy Special Day to one and all!!

If you know someone who is celebrating their birthday, anniversary or a special day today or sometime soon why not send them a nice e-card so they get it as soon as they log on! Even better, why not send this page to your friend!
Don’t know what to get for a present? Think about what your special person enjoys doing and the things they like.

For Girls, I know that flowers and chocolates are a bit cliché but nevertheless they always seem to work! Of course, if your budget stretches that far, jewellery, watches, perfume and fashion items are always appreciated!

For Boys, all boys like toys! It’s just as they get older the toys get more expensive. So gadgets and gimmicky things work. Again, if you have the budget then car accessories, sporting equipment and clothes, and man type jewellery like watches and gold chains will go down very well!

And, if all else fails, you could always send them a gift voucher and they can choose whatever they want!

If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other special event today I hope you got lots of cards and presents and that there is someone special in your life who will make this day a very happy and special day for you.

Happy celebrations to you from the Happy Special Day Blog!!
